Get to Know Showaround Locals in Prague: Meet Carey

Background: Currently, Carey is based in Prague and has been teaching English there since September 2014. Carey quit her 9-5 job in California for something new, so she packed her suitcase and started a new adventure. Carey's heart is not only filled with travelling but also with friends and family, meeting new people and, of course, passion for trying out delicious foods.

"I am also a travel blogger-vlogger in my spare time. I love to inspire others to travel more and encourage to experience the world rather than read or watch about it on TV. Get out there and see it for yourself to form your own opinions.", said Carey.

Showaround: Why did you decide to become one of Showaround locals?
Carey: My favourite thing to do besides travelling is meeting new people, especially from different cultures. With Showaround, it's a way I get to meet new people from all over the world without actually travelling. I am very curious and love learning. Being around others teaches me to be a better person.

The locals of Prague are interesting, and I have come to adore them. I like to think of them as an Egg. The shell on the outside is a bit hard to crack, but once you do, "you're in".

Showaround: What’s your favorite brunch, lunch or dinner spot in Prague?
Carey: Oh, this is a tough one, as my third favorite thing to do besides travel and meet new people is FOOD. Cafe Savoy has an amazing breakfast; I also love Cafe Lounge for coffee, brunch or lunch. My favorite restaurant that I take everyone to is Lehka Hlava, which is a vegetarian place. I'm not even vegetarian, but it's just that good, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. My other favorite place has the most amazing rooftop view over the old town. If you come to Prague, I'll show you. But for now, I will keep it my little secret.

Showaround: How would your friends describe you?
Carey: If my friends could describe me, I think it could be done in a few words. A genuine fun, outgoing, smiling and energetic social butterfly who craves adventure and travel. I am very positive and open to new things.

Showaround: How do you spend your free time?
Carey: My free time is mostly travelling myself all over Europe and more. I am an English teacher by day, but a travel blogger-vlogger in my spare time.

Showaround: How would you describe the local people of Prague?
Carey: The locals of Prague are interesting, and I have come to adore them. I like to think of them as an Egg. The shell on the outside is a bit hard to crack, but once you do, "you're in". The Czechs have had a turbulent history of communism that I believe has molded the way the society is today.

But the great thing is that I see it changing with the younger generation, and it's wonderful to see them open up. Don't be scared if they don't greet you with warm hellos and smiles, it's not in their culture to do so. But have a few beers with them and they will be eager to practice English with you.

Showaround: Thank you, Carey, for your answers!
