Get to Know Showaround Locals in Cape Town: Meet Stephan

Background: Stephan is a 24-year-old Showaround local from Cape Town. However, South African is not the only nationality; he is also Spanish and German. For that same reason, the local speaks both Spanish and English fluently. Stephan has recently obtained a private pilot's licence, and currently, he’s studying to receive a commercial licence too. On a tour with Stephan you can not only go on a mountain hike and taste some local wines but also he can take you on a flight so you can capture that perfect bird’s eye view of the beautiful Cape Town.

Showaround: Why did you decide to become a Showaround Local?
Stephan: I wanted to become a Showaround local so that I could pass on my experiences to the tourists that arrive every day and show them that even the smallest of exposures can have a great impact.

Showaround: Name three super local things to do in the city?
Stephan: My personal favourites are hiking up Table Mountain and Lion’s Head, then heading down to one of our impressive beaches and finally, exploring the city center with all its shops as well as wine tasting at the world-class wine farms. And well it's not very local but I would recommend taking a flight around the Cape Peninsula (Cape Point, Table Mountain and Robben Island) and if you’re lucky you can see whales and dolphins there too.

Showaround: Favorite restaurant?
Stephan: There are so many fantastic restaurants here that it really is difficult to pick one. But if I had to choose it would be a tie between The Butcher Shop (serving everything meaty) and La Bohemé (the menu changes everyday according to the ingredients that they receive).

Showaround: Best place for a drink?
Stephan: The best place for a drink would be down in Camps Bay, where you can also watch the sunset down by the beach. There is also The Grand based near the famous V&A Waterfront which offers unmatched panoramic sea vistas and an exquisite dining experience.

Showaround: What about the nightlife?
Stephan: Nightlife is always available for all types of party-goers. It all depends on your taste and preferences because Cape Town and its suburbs have a diverse range of options for a night out, from underground clubs to lounge bars. Typically Fridays and the weekends are the busiest.

Showaround: How would you describe the local people of Cape Town?
Stephan: The local people of Cape Town are kind and outgoing. If they see you’re lost they will try and help you find your way. It’s a culture that is hard to describe and should be experienced in person.

Showaround: Thank you Stephan for your answers!
