Get to Know Showaround Locals in Adelaide: Meet Steve

Background: Every experienced traveller knows that the best way to discover any destination is with the guidance of an insider. For this reason, after being on the road for quite some time and exploring distant corners of the world, Showaround local Steve from Adelaide, Australia, has decided to help out newcomers experience his hometown rather than just visit it. On a day-to-day basis, Steve works as a camera operator, and during his free time, he is a fervent traveller, amateur photographer, casual motorbike enthusiast, as well as a basketball fan. On a tour with him, be ready to hop on a bike and see the highlights of suburbia, including the hills, the wineries, the coast and plenty more.

Showaround: Why did you decide to become a Showaround Local?
Steve: I’m passionate about travelling, and this translates to enjoying foreign cultures and meeting new people from abroad. I'm proud of Adelaide - I wouldn't live anywhere else at this stage of my life - and I am keen for travellers to get an authentic side of the city as seen through the eyes of a local.

Showaround: Name three super local things to do in the city?
Steve: 1. Bar hopping on Peel and Leigh Streets, where you can find the new and hip small bar areas.
2. Head for a bushwalk at either Morialta National Park, Marino Rocks to Hallett Cove, or for the slightly greater challenge - the Waterfall Gully to Mt Lofty hike (it gets STEEP).
3. Last but not least, enjoy a wine tasting experience! My suggestions are either McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley or Clare Valley - they are all amazing!

Showaround: Favourite restaurant?
Steve: It’s undoubtedly Andre's Cucina. I love this restaurant year-round - its classic Italian food as everything there is homemade, fresh and authentic; great music and the staff is excellent there too.

Showaround: Best place for a drink?
Steve: The Wheatsheaf is a beer drinker's pub, and they do it well - they have their own brews and lots of other microbreweries from Australia wide. There you can also find a variety of good live music and an enchanting beer garden.

Showaround: What about the nightlife?
Steve: Although Adelaide might not be famous around the world as a party hotspot, in my opinion, it has everything albeit sometimes in small doses. The city has a wealth of spots to enjoy, from Cuba inspired laneway bars to places that serve Australian-spirits only. So if you join me on a night out, I can show you the best of the drinking scene in town, as well as where you should go to any evening during the week.

Showaround: How would you describe the local people of Adelaide?
Steve: Overall, the locals are pretty friendly and easy-going people with a unique sense of humour, they don’t take anything too seriously. It can be cliquey at times but when you find a good group of people - they are the best. Be aware that we like to use our own slang and abbreviations on an everyday basis. Because of this we are not always understood, even amongst native English speakers.

Showaround: Thank you Steve for your answers!
